Proof’s on-demand network of notaries are fully reviewed by our Notary Onboarding team before being provisioned to work on the Proof platform, starting with an eligibility check in accordance with notarial state laws. All notaries must undergo extensive platform training and pass a notarial knowledge and platform assessment before becoming active on the Proof platform. This article is geared towards a retail experience for individuals. If you have or will receive documents from an organization using Proof, here are some resources for you:
Notarization Requirements
To notarize a document using the Proof platform, signers must be at least 18 years old, and the document(s) must be intended for use in the United States.
Signers must have the following for their meeting with a notary:
- U.S. Social Security number or individual tax identification number (see note below)
- Government-issued photo identification (see this list of acceptable IDs)
- Current or previous U.S. address
- A device that meets minimum system requirements, including audio and video capabilities
- A strong internet connection
SSN or ITIN
The identifier used must be tied to sufficient records to generate identity verification questions, such as credit history, vehicle registration, etc.
Notarization, Start to Finish!
- Using a device that meets the Minimum System Requirements to Complete Transactions on Proof, choose one of the following methods:
- Provide your email address - we'll send your completed documents to you!
- Register for an account using the app or website.
- Provide your document(s) by method of your choosing:
- Upload from your computer
- Upload with the Notarize Mobile App
- Scan via Mobile Web (our website is optimized for use with mobile devices) - no app needed!
- Make any updates or notations, if applicable.
- Provide your personal information (name, date of birth, last 4 digits of U.S. Social Security number, current or previous U.S. address).
- Indicate if you're currently physically located at your home address.
- If Yes, click Continue and proceed through the process.
- If No, click Continue and provide the address of your present location.

Verify your identity:
- Correctly answer 5 security questions within 2 minutes.
- Take pictures of the front and back of your photo ID, including your secondary ID, if required for your document.
- Complete a quick Tech Check.
- Check out our Technology Troubleshooting section if you need help!
- Agree to the notarization fee and connect with the notary by video call.
- Follow the notary's instructions during the notarization session.
- The notary ends the call.
- Pay for the notarization.
After the call, you'll see a page where you can email, print, or download your documents immediately. You will also receive an email with a link to your document(s), or you can log in to your account to access your document(s).
