This article is geared towards a retail experience for individuals. If you have or will receive documents from an organization using Proof, here are some resources for you:

Notarization Requirements

To notarize a document using the Proof platform, signers must be at least 18 years old, and the document(s) must be intended for use in the United States.

Signers must have the following for their meeting with a notary:

  1. U.S. Social Security number or individual tax identification number (see note below)
  2. Government-issued photo identification (see this list of acceptable IDs)
  3. Current or previous U.S. address
  4. A device that meets minimum system requirements, including audio and video capabilities
  5. A strong internet connection

SSN or ITIN

✅ For those who need to verify their identity and/or notarize documents intended for use within the U.S., you may be required to complete Knowledge-based Authentication (KBA). To help you complete KBA, the Proof platform can accept either a U.S. Social Security Number (SSN) or an Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN).

The identifier used must be tied to sufficient records to generate identity verification questions, such as credit history, vehicle registration, etc.

Notarization, Start to Finish!

  1. Using a device that meets the Minimum System Requirements to Complete Transactions on Proof, choose one of the following methods:
    • Visit our website from a computer or mobile device
    • Download the Notarize app for Apple or Android
  2. Provide your email address - we'll send your completed documents to you!
  3. Register for an account using the app or website.
  4. Provide your document(s) by method of your choosing:
  5. Make any updates or notations, if applicable.
  6. Provide your personal information (name, date of birth, last 4 digits of U.S. Social Security number, current or previous U.S. address).
  7. Verify your identity:
    • Correctly answer 5 security questions within 2 minutes.
    • Take pictures of the front and back of your photo ID, including your secondary ID, if required for your document.
  8. Complete a quick Tech Check.
  9. Agree to the notarization fee and connect with the notary by video call.
  10. Follow the notary's instructions during the notarization session.
  11. The notary ends the call.
  12. Pay for the notarization.

After the call, you'll see a page where you can email, print, or download your documents immediately. You will also receive an email with a link to your document(s), or you can log in to your account to access your document(s).
