🚧 We've rebranded to Proof with the Notarize Network, but don't worry: The Notarize Network will continue to offer the same great service!
Here's Everything You Need to Know About Notarize’s Transition to Proof.
If a notary personally knows the signer, they can use the "Personally Known to Notary" (PKN) feature to skip Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) and Credential Analysis during the identity verification process.
This feature greatly reduces the pre-meeting time for your signers. PKN is ideal for internal transactions where both the signer and the notary are employees.
🚨 This feature is only available for meetings with your In-House Notaries. Overflow to the Notarize Network is no longer possible for any transaction that uses PKN as the means of identity verification.
Enabling & Creating
This feature must be enabled by Proof. Please contact Customer Support at support@proof.com to request this feature for your account. If you were assigned a Customer Success Manager (CSM), work with your CSM.
Once enabled, this option will appear whenever a single signer transaction is created.
📝 Note: Signers personally known to the notary must still provide a photo as additional assurance of their identity. However, the Notarize with Proof platform will not verify its authenticity.
The business user selects the following radio buttons in Adobe Sign when preparing the agreement: Use notary provided by my organization > Yes, the notary will confirm
Later, within Notarize with Proof, the notary confirms that they personally know the signer during the meeting.
If the notary indicates that they do not know the signer by selecting No, End Meeting the transaction is canceled.
Limitations & Considerations
- PKN cannot be used for multiple signers at this time. Single signer transactions only.
- You cannot switch a transaction to PKN after it is created.
- PKN is only available if you are using your In-House Notaries. It is not available for use with the Notarize Network:
- If you select PKN, overflow to the Notarize Network is no longer possible.
- This transaction can be manually reassigned but will not automatically overflow to the On-Demand Notary network. Reassignment to the network will require the signer to complete KBA and credential analysis.
