Requirements for credible witness
For real estate users: A credible witness may only be used:
- For eClosings and remote online notarizations, not hybrid closings.
- With underwriter approval to use this as your identification method.
How it works
To learn about credible witness requirements and their experience, read the credible identifying witness overview here.
ℹ️ If credible identifying witness is turned on for a transaction, it applies to all signers on that transaction. Only one credible identifying witness can be added per transaction, so the credible witness must be applicable for all signers on the transaction.
Use the credible witness option in a transaction
When credible identifying witness is enabled on your account, the default setting for all transactions is OFF. Turn this option on when you create the transaction:
- Click the switch next to Credible witness to ON under Signing details.
- Add the witness's name and email address. Phone number is optional.
