The short answer: If you've been added to a real estate transaction as a closing contact, you can join the notary meeting from your email notification or by answering a call from the signer.
How It Works
When a real estate sender creates a transaction on Proof, they can add closing contacts to the transaction. All listed contacts receive email status updates when:
- The transaction is sent to the signer.
- The meeting has begun.
- The meeting is complete.
Closing contacts can join the meeting from a computer or mobile device as an observer. You are not required to verify your identity and cannot interact with documents during the meeting.
Your email will include the recipient's name, the transaction expiration date, and your contact information as provided by the sender.
Join the Meeting
There are two ways to join: from your email notification, or by answering a call the signer places to your phone.
From Your Email
When you receive the email notification that the meeting has begun:
- Click the Join Meeting link in your email.
- Set a password if prompted.
- Click Agree & continue to accept the terms and conditions.
- Allow the browser to access your camera and microphone when prompted.
- Use the dropdown menus to adjust your camera and microphone selections if needed.
- Check the box to consent to audio-video recording of the meeting.
- Click Join Meeting.
When the Signer Calls You
The signer can also call you directly from the meeting. See Call closing contacts during a meeting for more about the signer's experience.
- You'll receive a phone call with an automated message inviting you to join the meeting.
- Press any number followed by the # key to join.
