Audience: Organizations

The short answer: Optional fields let signers provide information without requiring it to complete the transaction. Mark any signer field as optional from the Prepare documents window.

How It Works

Optional fields show "(Optional)" next to the field name so signers know they aren't required to fill them in. Here's what to know:

  • Optional fields are not required for the signer to complete the transaction.
  • They can be used in both documents and document templates.
  • Notary fields cannot be marked as optional.

Set a Signer Field as Optional

In the Prepare documents window:

  1. Add the field you'd like to mark as optional.
  2. Select the field after placing it on the document.
  3. Set the field as optional using one of these methods:
    • Click the Set as optional button that appears directly above the field.
    • Toggle the Field is required switch to the OFF position in the right-hand toolbar.

Summary Checklist

  • Open the Prepare documents window for your transaction.
  • Add the field and select it on the document.
  • Click Set as optional above the field, or toggle Field is required to OFF.
