Selfie comparison is a method of verifying a person's identity by comparing a real-time selfie photo to the identification (ID) provided. It is also referred to as a biometrics verification.
Selfie comparison is part of IAL2-Compliant Identity Verification.
Notarizations may also fall back to selfie instead of knowledge-based authentication in certain circumstances.
Who can use this
Most signers and recipients can use selfie comparison to verify their identity depending on the organization that sent them the transaction.
What to expect
The system will guide you through this process. A button to manually capture photos appears after a short time, but once you are in position, the image is captured automatically and the button disappears.
For best results:
- Remove hats, sunglasses, or masks
- Use good lighting so the camera can clearly capture you
- Use your smartphone for high quality photos
If the notary is unable to verify your identity with the selfie images captured, you may be asked to retake photos of your ID or selfie during the meeting.
