This guide clarifies the differences between the National Notary Association membership, ID number, and notary signing agent certification, including how to obtain them and which are required to become an on-demand notary (ODN) on the Proof platform.
National Notary Association (NNA) ID number and notary signing agent (NSA) certification are two separate requirements for on-demand notaries on the Proof platform, while an NNA membership is not required to be an ODN.

NNA membership
A National Notary Association membership is not required to join the Proof platform or to obtain your NNA ID number.

NNA ID number
The NNA ID number is required to create an account with Proof, but you do not need a paid membership to obtain an ID number.

Notary signing agent certification
Notary signing agents (NSAs) facilitate loan closings for the real estate industry. Notary signing agent certification is required to work as an on-demand notary on the Proof platform.
To join the Notarize Network as an on-demand notary, you must:
- Obtain NSA certification
- Pass a background check
- Complete the NSA certification exam
