The short answer: Every notary who joins the Notarize Network is fully reviewed by our Network Integrity team before they can meet with signers — here's everything you need to become an On-Demand Notary (ODN) on the Proof platform.
1. Active States
The Proof platform is currently live for On-Demand Notaries in the following states:
- Florida.
- Nevada.
- Pennsylvania.
- Texas.
- Virginia.
Notaries commissioned in these states are automatically enabled for dual capacity as an ODN and a Notary-Sourced Transaction (NST) notary. Not commissioned in one of these states? Add your name to the waiting list to get updates on when your state goes live.
2. What You Need
National Notary Association (NNA) Documentation
We check with the NNA to verify your completion of required notarial training and that an unexpired background screening is on file. This is required to answer on-demand calls on the Proof platform. Review the NNA requirements here.
To obtain your NNA ID number:
- Create an NNA account.
- Purchase a background check.
- Purchase NSA training.
NSA Certification
NSA certification consists of a completed background check and the NSA exam, both purchased when obtaining your NNA ID. Proof collects this information when you set up your notary profile. Follow the instructions on the NNA website for more information.
Errors and Omissions (E&O) Insurance
E&O insurance protects you from liability for false claims or unintentional notarial mistakes. To work as an On-Demand Notary, you must upload a copy of your E&O insurance policy for at least $25,000 to your account, along with the policy expiration date and insurance amount. 3. What to Expect
The Network Integrity team is alerted automatically when you enter and update credentials in your account. Your profile will be reviewed for compliance once all of the following are complete:
Notary Profile
- Personal Information.
- Commission Details.
- Insurance Details.
- Signature and Seal.
- Payment Information.
Proof Academy Training
You must complete all required training in your Proof Academy profile before using the platform. The training consists of:
- Notary Skills Assessment (state-specific) — Measures basic notarial knowledge. Required with unlimited attempts to pass at 80% or higher.
- Platform Training — 2-3 hours of content specific to using the Proof platform.
- Platform Training Assessment — Required with unlimited attempts to pass at 80% or higher.

4. Requirements by Notary Capacity
1 Required for ODNs; optional for NSTs and IHNs depending on their state.
2 ODNs who act as NSTs must collect payment from their signers outside of the Proof platform.

- Confirm you are commissioned in one of the five active states (FL, NV, PA, TX, VA).
- Obtain your NNA ID number by completing the background check and NSA training.
- Obtain your NSA certification through the NNA website.
- Upload your E&O insurance policy ($25,000 minimum) to your Proof account.
- Complete your Notary Profile — personal info, commission details, insurance, signature & seal, and payment.
- Complete Proof Platform Training and pass the Notary Skills Assessment and Platform Training Assessment at 80% or higher.
- Complete your identity verification and obtain your Proof Digital Certificate.
