The short answer: Notaries need to obtain authorization to perform online notarizations in their state. The turnaround time varies, so prioritize this step early.
1. Find Your State on the Map
Select your state on this map to see its online notarization requirements.
2. Confirm Eligibility for Your Notary Type
Look for a YES next to the question that applies to you:
- In-house notaries: "Can notaries in [your state] perform online notarizations?"
- Notarize Network notaries: "Can notaries join the Notarize Network in [your state]?"
If it says "Working on it," click the Join Waitlist button to be notified when it's available for your state.
3. Review State Requirements
Select the link at the top of your state's page for details on what's required to obtain authorization.
