The short answer: You can cancel a sent transaction that hasn't been completed yet — but cancellation is permanent and can't be undone. If the error can be fixed during the notary meeting, do that instead.
Cancelling vs. Correcting During the Meeting
If the transaction hasn't been sent yet, you can edit or delete the draft rather than cancelling. Depending on your organization's settings, it may be possible to correct errors during the meeting using notary tools.
❌ Cancel when...
- The transaction was sent to the incorrect email address
- The number of signers has changed
- A duplicate transaction was created
- Documents have changed
✅ Correct during the meeting when...
- The signer needs to use a witness
- The tags were placed incorrectly
Which Transactions Can Be Cancelled
| Transaction Type | When It Can Be Cancelled |
|---|---|
| Real Estate | Expired transactions only |
| Business | Sent but not yet completed |
You can also edit transactions that haven't been attempted by signers yet — edit a business transaction or recall a real estate transaction. If editing isn't possible, determine whether the error can be corrected during the meeting before cancelling.
