The short answer: Here are the generally accepted forms of identification for Identify transactions on the Proof platform.
When completing identity verification from an Identify transaction, you may be asked to complete any combination of the following:
- Credential analysis (CA) of a government-issued ID
- Selfie
- Knowledge-based Authentication (KBA)
When the sending organization has selected an IAL2-compliant verification, you will need to complete credential analysis and a selfie comparison. If those cannot pass the automated system, you may need to meet with a trusted referee who will help verify your identity. In these sessions, you may need to present a primary and additional form of identification. Review the accepted forms below.
Acceptable Primary Identification
Your primary ID must be one of the following government-issued photo IDs:
- Driver's license or learner's permit
- Passport
- Passport card
- Permanent resident card
- State ID card
Acceptable Secondary Identification
Your secondary ID must be different from your primary ID. For example, if you used your driver's license as your primary ID, it cannot also be used as your secondary ID.
- Driver's license or learner's permit
- Passport

- Utility bill*
- Credit or debit card statement*
- Bank account statement*
Not Accepted on the Proof Platform
The following forms of ID cannot be accepted on the Proof platform due to constraints from our Credential Analysis vendor:
Military IDs and Inmate/Prisoner IDs
Proof cannot accept Inmate/Prisoner IDs or Military IDs (including dependent Military IDs).
Summary Checklist
- Your primary ID is a government-issued photo ID (driver's license, passport, state ID, etc.).
- Your secondary ID is different from your primary ID.
- If using a bill or statement as secondary ID, confirm it is dated within 6 months of the meeting.
- Military IDs and Inmate/Prisoner IDs are not accepted on the Proof platform.
