The short answer: Capture a clear photo of your government-issued ID to complete identity verification. You can do this before your notary meeting, or during a meeting when prompted to retake your ID photos.
Before you start
A few quick tips to make sure your photos come through clearly:
- Find a well-lit room — natural light works best.
- Hold the ID steady to avoid blur.
- Angle the ID to avoid glare from overhead lights.
- Make sure all four corners of the ID are visible in the frame.
Capture photos of your ID
-
To use your webcam on your computer, select the blue link at the bottom of the screen titled "Don't have a phone? Use your computer".
-
Select the country where your ID is from in the Select country dropdown menu, then select the type of ID you're uploading from the Select government issued ID dropdown menu.
Select the options for a supplemental document if required for your transaction.
Select Continue.
Select Accept if you agree to the biometric consent terms.
-
Select Take Photo to open the capture screen.
Align your ID within the frame and select Take Photo again to capture a clear photo of the front of your ID.
Select Confirm and Continue when you're happy with the photo, or select Re-Take Photo to try again.
-
Select Take Photo to capture a clear photo of the back of your ID, then select Confirm and Continue or select Re-Take Photo to try again.
This step applies to primary IDs only; secondary IDs do not require a back photo.
Summary Checklist
- Choose your ID type — select the country and ID type before taking photos.
