Audience: Everyone

The short answer: Every Proof account has session timeouts applied for security reasons. Proof automatically logs you out after 30 minutes of inactivity or 8 hours of active time.

How it works

These timeouts are part of Proof's commitment to security and AAL2 compliance — one of three levels of identity proofing defined by NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology). They help prevent unauthorized access to your account.

Inactive timeout (30 minutes)

If you're inactive for 25 minutes, a pop-up appears warning you that you'll be logged out in 5 minutes. Select Stay logged in to remain in your account, or Log out to exit.

Users on a mobile browser will not see the warning — they will be automatically logged out when the time limit is reached.

This timeout can be configured for your organization, but it can only be reduced, not increased.

Active timeout (8 hours)

If you have been logged in for 8 hours, your session ends automatically — even if you're currently active.

If you're in a meeting when the 8-hour limit is reached, you will be logged out after the meeting is complete.

Summary Checklist

  • Inactive timeout: 30-minute limit. Warning pop-up appears at 25 minutes — select Stay logged in to dismiss.
  • Active timeout: 8-hour limit — session ends automatically. In-meeting users are logged out after the meeting completes.
  • Mobile browser users do not receive the warning pop-up — they are logged out automatically.
