A fully online closing means everything from signing your documents to meeting with a notary happens online. No printing, no in-person appointments, and no overnight shipping required.
What You'll Need
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| SSN or ITIN | A U.S. Social Security number or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number for knowledge-based authentication. If you don't have one, you may be given the option to verify using selfie photos compared to your photo ID. |
| Photo ID | A government-issued photo ID for credential analysis. Some documents have specific ID requirements — check the list of acceptable forms of ID if needed. |
| U.S. Address | A current or former U.S. address. |
| Device | A device with a camera and microphone for the live video session with your notary. |
How It Works
1. Open Your Documents +
You'll receive an email from Proof with a link to your closing package. Click the link, create your Proof account when prompted, and review your documents. Click Sign Now to eSign the documents that don't require a notary before your meeting.
2. Verify Your Identity +
To protect you against fraud, Proof will ask you to complete two identity checks before your meeting. First, you'll answer a short set of knowledge-based questions generated from public records. Then you'll take a photo of the front and back of your government-issued photo ID. These steps are required by law — Proof does not set these standards.
3. Enable Your Camera and Microphone +
The platform will ask for access to your camera and microphone for the live video session. Make sure to allow this so you can connect with your notary without any delays.
4. Join the Notary Meeting +
Click Start meeting when prompted to connect with a notary. If your organization is using an in-house notary, your meeting time will be scheduled in advance. If not, an On-demand Notary from the Notarize Network will pick up your call. Once connected, your notary will walk you through reviewing and signing the remaining documents.
5. Complete the Notarization +
Once the notary meeting wraps up, you may be asked to pay for the transaction depending on your organization's settings. Some organizations cover the cost, so you won't always need to pay. If you're not sure, check with whoever sent you the documents. Proof accepts Google Pay, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express), debit cards, and bank transfers.
6. Access Your Completed Documents +
Once payment is confirmed (if applicable), you'll receive an email with a link to your completed documents. You can also log in to your Proof account to download or share them at any time.
