How It Works
1. Open Your Documents +
You'll receive an email from Proof with a link to your closing package. Select the link, create your Proof account when prompted, and review your documents. Select Sign Now to eSign the documents that don't require a notary before your meeting.
You can review your documents during this stage, and depending on how your transaction is set up, you may be able to sign some of them now. Use the Next document button in the upper right to navigate between pages. When you reach the last document, select Continue.

2. Verify Your Identity +
To protect you against fraud, Proof will ask you to complete two identity checks before your meeting. First, you'll confirm your name, date of birth, and the last four digits of your SSN or ITIN, along with your current U.S. address.

Next, you'll answer a short set of knowledge-based questions generated from public records. These steps are required by law — Proof does not set these standards.
After the quiz, you'll select your country and ID type, then use your phone to capture a clear photo of the front and back of your government-issued photo ID. The ID must show your photo, date of birth, and expiration date.
Follow the on-screen prompts to line up your ID within the frame for each side. The system checks the image quality automatically before moving on.
3. Enable Your Camera and Microphone +
The platform will ask for access to your camera and microphone for the live video session. Make sure to allow this so you can connect with your notary without any delays. You can manually select your audio and video device directly beneath the video feed box.
4. Join the Notary Meeting +
Select Start meeting when prompted to connect with a notary. If your organization is using an in-house notary, your meeting time will be scheduled in advance. If not, an On-demand Notary from the Notarize Network will pick up your call.
Once connected, your notary will walk you through reviewing and signing the remaining documents.
5. Complete the Notarization +
During the live video session, your notary reviews each document with you and notarizes it in real time.
Once the meeting wraps up, you may be asked to pay for the transaction depending on your organization's settings. Some organizations cover the cost, so you won't always need to pay. If you're not sure, check with whoever sent you the documents. Proof accepts Google Pay, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, and American Express), debit cards, and bank transfers.
6. Access Your Completed Documents +
Once payment is confirmed (if applicable), you'll receive an email with a link to your completed documents. You can also log in to your Proof account to download or share them at any time.
