The information and/or process below applies to all users.
What you need
To meet with a notary and complete an online notarization transaction on the Proof platform, you need the following items:
- U.S. Social Security number for knowledge-based authentication
- Government-issued photo ID for credential analysis
- A valid email address
- A computer with audio/video capabilities
📝 Note: Documents may have specific ID requirements for notarization. If this is the case, please follow the document instructions. Here is a list of acceptable forms of ID for most documents.
Upload the document
- Open the upload document page.
- Click Add a document to select a PDF file from your hard drive.
- Scan the QR code with your smartphone to scan physical documents.
- Select the document from your computer's local drive or mobile device files.
- To add another document, click + Add another document
- To edit the name of the uploaded file, click the pencil icon to the right of the file name
- To delete the file from your transaction, click the trash bin icon
- Review your document in the preview to ensure it is correct, and select Continue.
⚠️ Ensure the entire document is uploaded, not just the signature page. - Indicate if anyone else needs to sign the document.
- If yes, see Get a document notarized with two or more signers.
- If no, click Continue and proceed to the next step.
- Provide your email address or sign up with Google.
- Create a password and click Continue.
- Indicate whether or not the document requires a witness or a second signer.
- If a witness is required, they must be physically in the room with you or the notary can invite an On-Demand Witness for an additional fee. Read more about witnesses here.
- Provide your name, then click Continue.
- (Optional) Click + Add pronouns (optional) to add your pronouns if desired.
- Prepare your the document using the tools provided in the panel on the right.
- Once you're satisfied, click Continue.
- Provide your date of birth and the last 4 digits of your U.S. Social Security number.
- Provide your home address.
- Indicate if you're currently physically located at your home address.
- If Yes, click Continue and proceed through the process.
- If No, click Continue and provide the address of your present location.
- Follow the prompts to proceed to your meeting with a notary.
ℹ️ After creating your account, you can stop the process and resume at a later time by logging in to your Proof account.
